April 2014 Review: This Month We Love…

May 1, 2014 By jbmumofone 12 Comments

We have received a mixed selection of items for review over the last month and on the whole have been pleased with them all.  The boy was delighted with our first item, an Imaginext Alpha Explorer from Fisher Price.

Imaginext Alpha Explorer

Imaginext Fisher Price

Imaginext space shuttle

The Imaginext Alpha Explorer is a toy space shuttle and landing station, with accompanying astronaut, designed for children aged 3-8.  There is plenty of fine-motor skill practice to be had with platforms that twist and raise, plastic ‘lasers’ to fire,  and fuel gauges that spin.  The shuttle can be detached from the station and various pieces interconnect well.  The astronaut even has his own detachable helmet.  I think this one toy that the boy will have plenty of fun with for a long time to come as there is plenty to feed his imagination as he grows.

The Imaginext Alpha Explorer is available from Toys ‘R’ Us and retails at £29.99.

The second product on our list this month was one for my very own self, hooray, although truth be told Mr B is using it as much as me.

Mums Weekly Planner

Mums Weekly Planner From Mum's Office

The ‘Mum’s weekly planner’ from Mum’s Office  is a pad capable of organising as many as six schedules.  We are now using it regularly to plan our weekly meals, work schedules, kid’s schedules and exercise plans.  There is also an incredibly useful detachable shopping list at the side of each page.  At the bottom of each page there are tick-boxes to plan the things you must do that week, the things you should do, and the things you might just get to given enough time.  I love it.  We are becoming hugely reliant it on already and I am delighted to say there are 60 pages so will last more than a year!  This currently retails at £9.99 which I honestly think is a bargain.

Our final item is PEACE OF MIND.  Seriously.  This time brought to us courtesy of Window Ware.  With the summer nearly upon us it is the time of year when you want to fling the windows open and give the house a good airing.  With a toddler about the house we have not really been able to do this upstairs for fear of him falling out of the extremely large gap.  Our double-glazing basically has 3 positions: wide open, closed and locked open but sadly this is restricted to an opening of about 1/4 inch which does not allow for much airflow.

Although I am desperate to air the bedrooms this is the size of the gap and the depth of the drop from the children’s room.

Window Ware Cable Restrictor

It has danger written all over it doesn’t it?  Not any more.  That little white box at the bottom of the window frame is one of the LOCIT cable restrictors that we received from Window Ware.  Now, as my regular readers know, Mr B is not exactly a DIY guru (It is a good job he is pretty.), but even he found them incredibly easy to fit.  It took seconds and only required a drill and a screwdriver.

Here it is with the LOCIT cable restrictor in place.

LOCIT cable restrictor

No chance of the boy escaping through there now!  The cable is attached to the window and can be easily inserted and locked to the box at the frame, and unlocked with a simple key.  We have now attached them to all of our upstairs windows which has provided huge peace of mind.  These retail at £16.95 each and, in my opinion, worth every penny with a toddler in the house.

So, all in all, a pretty good month!

We were sent all of the items featured free of charge for the purpose of this review.  All opinions are mine alone and, as always, completely honest.

That space shuttle thing looks great. After spending most of my day sitting down in the office I feel that my motor skills are degenerating so it would be an ideal workout thing for me.

That organiser thing looks… crap. It reminds me of those things that overly busy people bring to meetings with them so they can show me how busy they’ve been all week. Do you like organising meetings by any chance…?

The window thing looks kind of nifty in a simple gadget way. I would diligently and attentively fit it to a window, marvel at it’s ingenuity for a few minutes before smashing it off with a hammer a few days later when I need to throw water at next door’s cat.

It would also be good for thwarting the fat people in the office who keep opening the windows when it’s cold outside.

It really is. We weren’t convinced they would be that easy to fit and had visions of having to replace the window frames but they really were simple….and if we managed it ANYONE can believe me.

That window thing is genius! And I love the weekly planner, although we’ve had to move all our shared calendars to an online version otherwise Mr C would book something whilst at work and at the same time I would have done the same – then we ended up with no one to look after the kids!

Love a good planner, although I do then to be using three different versions at any one time which kind of defeats the object.
