L is for Lipstick

April 13, 2012 By jbmumofone 8 Comments

I recently spent a week back at my folks place over Easter and, on leaving, accidentally forgot to pack my make-up bag.  (I also forgot my hair-straighteners, diary, W’s night-lights and my work-key.  Disaster.)  This actually concerned me more than I thought it would.

I am not a HUGE make-up wearer you see.  I know plenty of friends who would not dream of leaving the house without their lipstick or mascara on but I have never really been one of those women.  In fact the only lipstick phase I went through was in my teens where Rimmel’s pale sugary-pink, (think Twiggy) or black-cherry (think Goth, the shame) were a must.

But now I only really wear lip-gloss, and a clear one at that, or mascara, if we are going somewhere special.  So I was a little perturbed at how uncomfortable not having access to this little bag of magic made me.  I came to realise that most days I DO find two minutes to quickly powder on some foundation and apply a quick swish of blusher and it does make me feel better.

I am not one of those “I am perfectly confident just how I am” kind of women after all.

I also came to realise some other rules I have almost unknowingly been living by.  They include, but are not limited to…

  1. DO NOT leave the house without perfume, even to put out the rubbish.
  2. NEVER wear flip-flops without painted toe-nails.
  3. Keep all finger-nails the same length at all times. If one breaks the others are getting shortened too.
  4. Pluck eyebrows at least every other day for fear of looking like a cave-woman.

I am really not very laid back at all.

How about you?

Are there things you will not leave the house without doing?  Are you a make-up or a hair-straightener slave?

Let me know.

Can’t really think of anything off the top of my head.

My nostril and ear hairs seem to be growing at a frighteningly fast rate and it annoys me if I don’t have time to trim them.

Sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day for a good nostril trimming.

I’m rubbish with the whole girlie beauty thing!

I’m rubbish with makeup. I wear it about once a month! I used to wear it more when I was in practice, but don’t bother now. It makes my skin itch (even Clinique) and I find it difficult get the right colour because I am so freckly; I forget and rub my eyes, smudging mascara everywhere; I forget to reapply lipstick, ending up with a ring of pink around the edge of my lips. Just rubbish.

I’m rubbish with perfume. It makes me sneeze, so haven’t worn any for the last 6 years.

I’m pretty rubbish at eyebrow maintenance, but getting increasingly better at upper lip hair removal, unfortunately becoming an essential routine every few weeks 🙁

And I’ve not plucked up the courage to do the hair dye thing either – and boy do I need it! – but I’m afraid that I’ll have an aleergic reaction to the chemicals 🙁

So, I can happily leave my makeup box behind without a second thought!

P.S. Occasionally I think that I should grow up and start to wear make up, but I’d rather stay in bed for the extra 5 mins, so therein lies the reality, I can’t be bothered!

Welcome!

Jbmumofone is written by me, jbmumofone, and this blog is my baby. Although clearly I didn’t think this name through because I’m now a mum of two actual babies.

I blog because I love to write, and for sanity’s sake, and have been blogging since August 2011. So why not dig on in and explore?
