Listography: Top Five Films on Netflix

October 12, 2014 By jbmumofone 12 Comments

It has been far too long since we joined in with Kate for a Listography and this month we simply could not resist.  As a fellow Netflix #streamteam member Kate is asking for our top five films on Netflix and here are mine.

In at number one has to be Into The Wild.  This is a proper weepy film for me.  I literally cried for weeks after watching it and the soundtrack is just beautiful.  It scores a decent four and a half stars on Netflix.  For me it is five stars all the way.  If you haven’t seen it yet I would certainly recommend but have your tissues at the ready.  You have been warned.

Into The Wild

For me number two would have to be Ten Things I Hate About You, a really funny modernisation of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew.  Witty, heartwarming, again a great soundtrack and of course a beautiful young Heath Ledger.  What’s not to like?   This too scores four and a half stars on Netflix.

Ten things I hate about you

Number three is one of those truly rare films that, having LOVED the book, the film didn’t then disappoint.  It has to be Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather.  Al Pacino, Marlon Brando…need I say more.  A solid five star rating on Netflix.  Also made it into Kate’s top five.

The Godfather

In at number four, and staying with the crime genre, I was delighted to find Face Off.  I have not seen this film in years but cannot wait to watch again.  A somewhat ridiculous plot but awesomely acted by Nicolas Cage and John Travolta.  I cannot believe it only gets three and a half starts on Netflix.  What is wrong with you people?

Face Off

And finally I would have to agree with Kate’s choice again with an I-cannot-wait-until-the-kids-are-big-enough film,  Stand By Me.  A beautiful tale of childhood friendship, another awesome soundtrack,  and  a very young River Phoenix.  Another solid five star rating on Netflix.

Stand By Me

So, there you have it.  My top five films on Netflix.  Wow, I am more of a softie than I thought and writing this has made me a little sad thinking about some of those young actors who are no longer with us.

Pass the tissues please.

Disclosure:  I am a Netflix streamteam member and have been provided with a years subscription to Netflix and an i-pad mini on which to view it for the purpose of these reviews.  All opinions are my own.

I was a HUGE River Phoenix fan growing up.I watched everything he did and I was absolutely heartbroken when he died, especially the way he did as he portrayed himself as such a clean living bloke *sniffs*.And Heath Ledger was really good in 10 Things I Hate About You *sniffs louder*

It is so sad isn’t it? I especially loved Heath Ledger in A Knight’s Tale. He was just so charming and endearing. Very sad 🙁

Confession. Out of those five films, I have only ever seen Stand By Me. I just haven’t watched a lot of films I guess. Mr R never believes me when I tell him I haven’t seen something! 😀

It was quite hard narrowing this down to just five…there are a lot of good rom-coms on there!

Thank you for joining in! (Phew!) I adored Into the Wild and didn’t realise it was on Netflix. I may have had a major mum crush on the gorgeous Emile after the watching of this movie…
