I was actually so desperate for inspiration I began browsing the Collins English Dictionary and, blimey, it was the best fun I have had in ages. Some words are just so cool.
I will be saving some up for later in the challenge but here are my top three J’s that I now don’t know how I have possibly survived so long without knowing.
Jack-by-the-hedge: Noun. Another name for garlic mustard.
Really? Is this really true?
Jalopy, or jaloppy: Noun. Informal a dilapidated old car.
Ok, so this one kind of sounds about right but I particularly love that even the dictionary cannot decide how to spell it.
Jillaroo: Noun. Australian informal a female jackeroo.
Nope, still none the wiser.
So there you have it folks. This blog is nothing if not educational.
No, don’t thank me, glad to be of service.
Now I’m just gonna grab my Jillaroo, hop in my jaloppy and whizz down the shops as am getting low on jack-by-the-hedge.
Michael Cargill says
As any man knows, J is for… JUBBLIES.
The mustard one is a bit odd though.

I just couldn’t bring myself to post about jubblies I’m afraid. I’m not sure it was listed.
Little Miss says
Jalopy, I have one of those!
jbmumofone says
Sadly so do we. Great name isn’t it?
Cat (Yellow Days) says
Damn! Why didn’t I think of that? *wanders off in J related panic*

This is really tough isn’t it! How is the self-hosting going honey? Will pop by in a bit x
slightlysuburbandad says
Jalopy is a brilliant word and describes 2 out of our last 3 cars!
jbmumofone says
It is my favourite new word!
DL Hammons says
I’ve had plenty of jalopy’s in my day! 🙂
jbmumofone says
I think jalopy carries a certain degree of charm don’t you? 🙂
Bibsey Mama says
Love the word Jalopy. I am sure that I remember it from some kids cartoon. Whacky Races maybe…
jbmumofone says
Oooh yes maybe.
