Well, we made it back safely from the most fantastic week away with the Grandparents. Mr B, W and I were lucky enough to spend a week in the sun in the beautiful Greek region of Kallithea. The sun shone, the waves lapped, sandcastles were built and the wine was cold.
And W started to talk more.
And more.
And more.
He really thrived through the week, perhaps as a result of the constant playing and attention and the fact that he got to spend time with both me and Mr B together, something which we struggle with a lot at home.
But his speech just seemed to develop really quickly, to the point that you can actually have a conversation with him now, all be it a very basic one.
“Would you like some Milk?”
“MEL, YAY!”
“Is it bedtime?”
“NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO is a particular favourite at the moment which he manages to say in a fantastic mimic of my tone. Hilarious but not helpful for discipline.
His ability to mimic is something I fear we may soon come to dread. On walking to the shops with him recently a rowing couple were approaching. She was visibly upset and shaking her head tearfully as she said “But no John, no no you..,” when W looks up at her, shakes his head too and begins a rant of “NNNOOO NNNOOO NNNOOO”. To her credit, she did manage a small smile but I could have died.
AGG-ENNN is another favourite if have done something funny, as is UP UP UP when he is fed up of walking.
In fact the chatter just doesn’t seem to stop.
It goes around and around and doesn’t seem to matter if anyone is listening or not.
At night I can hear him natter away to the toys in his cot.
Dinner is now a constant series of “MOREs”
It goes on and on.
I went back to work yesterday. The first time I had been away from him in over a week.
The silence was deafening.

If a child doesn’t ever stop talking, I usually assume they inherited from their mother.
