As the weather is starting to improve more and more of us are beginning to plan for our summer bank holidays. For those of us with little ones, this is not always as easy as it sounds.
Mr B, W and I have not long returned from a short break visiting his brother in Italy. Whilst we had a lovely time anyway the sheer practicality of travelling with a young child did make the journey both there and back somewhat exhausting. We arrived home almost as tired as we had left!
We are beginning to find that travelling abroad can really add to holiday stress, as well as expense. Routines are disrupted by flight times. Meals are missed and hungry toddlers do not make the best travelling companions. Being cramped on an aeroplane for ours on end is also not the most fun for small children. Not to mention the limited luggage allowance.
In view of this, and with baby number two due any day now, we have decided that we would like to get away again this summer but plan to stay in the UK.
Our checklist for a bank-holiday getaway includes:
- Accessibility by car thus we can bring as much luggage as the car will allow. This also means we can work our journey times around sleep and meal times and can plan regular stops throughout the journey as required.
- Must be child friendly.
- Lots of things to do. Ideally a spa for me, a nice restaurant for Mr B and there MUST MUST MUST be a pool.
- Nice, comfortable accommodation.
- Not too expensive.
With lots of bank holiday breaks to choose from this should be easy right?
But there is so much choice! On the Butlins’ website alone there are seaside resorts, deluxe hotels, self catering apartments and a whole host of activities. You don’t even need to worry about unpredictable weather as Butlins even has indoor waterparks.
So, if you have any experience of UK breaks with young children I would love to hear your thoughts. Do let me know below.
Disclosure: This post is brought to you in association with Butlins however all words are my own.
