We believe in good old family fun and we think it’s time to get planning on ways you can increase that very special quality time.
Buy in those biscuits grandma likes and stock up on fizzy pop for the kids. Here are 4 smart ideas for family fun on a shoestring…
1. Movie Night
It’s not the most original idea, certainly, but it is a tried and tested classic all your family members can enjoy. Whether your Nan loves horror flicks or your other half secretly enjoys a soppy rom-com, you can spend your Nectar points on tickets, VIP seating, or to splash out on popcorn and much more!
Available at the box office only, when you visit your local Vue cinema – hand the cashier your card and every 500 points gives you a £2.50 discount off the total.
2. Come Dine with Me
If your family are a creative culinary bunch, why not invite everyone around for a family Come Dine with Me special? The rules are simple: one family member is responsible for each course and, at the end, everybody allocates points from 1-10 for their gastronomic experience.
Yes, it could get catty, but it’s also a lot of fun, as long as your mum doesn’t get too offended when her lumpy lemon sorbet gets slated. A homemade trophy or even a special winner’s apron makes the perfect prize for the victor!
3. Home Video Night
If you fancy a change from the silver screen but still want to curl up collectively on the sofa, why not dig out your old home videos?
Everyone loves to see themselves on screen, especially if granddad’s haircut is particularly embarrassing. It’s also a great way to teach kids a little family history. You could spend the early evening making some tasty snacks together before settling down to get all nostalgic about the days when you used to wear skin tight leather trousers…Funny and free!
4. Indoor Camping
Here’s a fun one for your immediate family. With the weather getting colder out there, why not take the kids camping, in the living room! Building an indoor den out of blankets and mattresses is pretty much the most fun you can have at home, and once your tent is up you can spend the evening doing all sorts of fun camping activities.
Why not substitute the campfire for a fondue pot and tell spooky stories around marshmallows and fruit dipped in chocolate? You could even pick up some glow in the dark stickers for the ceiling so that your kids really can sleep out under the stars!
Do you have any great ideas for family fun nights on a shoestring? I would love to know how you like to get your clan together, so do let me know below.

Love your ideas. Another one when theres a group of you is to play old fashioned parlour games like charades and board games. My kids usually grumble at the thought of doing this but they always enjoy it.

So true. We had a surprising amount of fun one night playing hangman on a blackboard!

Some great ideas here. One of my friends has indoor picnics with her little ones which they love!

We often do this with the toddler too, particularly when he is going through a ‘picky-eater’ phase…which is quite often!
