As part of the Vanish Bloggers’ Club I was sent a pot of the new Vanish Gold For Whites Powder to try out. I was sent a deliberately discoloured Karen Millen shirt to see if this product would be able to restore it to it’s former glory. I really hoped so, it would have been a really nice shirt, if not so horribly grey.
To be honest I didn’t hold out much hope.
To achieve three shades whiter whites Vanish recommend two possible methods.
Method One:
Add one scoop of Vanish Gold For Whites powder to 4L of warm water and soak for a maximum of six hours. Rub the fabric to remove stains. After soaking rinse thoroughly and wash as per the garment’s instructions.
Method Two:
Add a scoop of Vanish Gold For Whites in the wash with your detergent without pre-soaking, though to achieve 3 shades whiter whites may require up to five washes depending on the fabric and washing conditions.
I opted for Methd Two and used a 40 degree cycle, washing for 1 hour 25 minutes each time.
This is how I got on.
Pre-wash. Oh so grey. Not holding out much hope.
Wash 1: Between a 2 and 3 on the colour scale. Definitely more than a shade whiter.
Wash 2: Poor lighting in this shot but we are definitely at a 2 now.
Wash 3: Between 1 and 2, almost 3 shades whiter after just 3 washes.
Wash 4: ALMOST a 1!
Wash 5: Good enough to…
…wear! Hurrah.
All of our whites are looking much brighter, especially our bedding and it has breathed new life into some of my previously grey-looking, *coughs* unmentionables.
I am really impressed.
I am also a bit gutted that I used up so much of it when I popped on over to Missing Sleep and found she achieved the same using Method One, and only used up one scoop! Her results are amazing and you can find them here.
Would I recommend Vanish Gold For Whites? You betcha.
Will I use again? Totally.
Disclosure: I was sent this pot, and shirt, as part of the Vanish Bloggers Club and have been compensated for this post, however all words and opinions are my own and 100% honest.

Oh wow that’s amazing – and I def need it with the boys shirts. Wonder if I stuck “the dress” in my husband could finally see it as white and gold instead of blue and black though lol
