I don’t tend to write many review posts these days, but when I was approached by Uncommon Goods about the possibility of checking them out and reviewing for them it made me pause.
When I first hit their website what really caught my attention was that these guys are on a mission. And a good one at that. Just a few of their policies are:
- To have a positive impact, both in the world AND in their work environment. They offer full health insurance to all of their full time, and most part time, employees and promise that everyone receives a fair wage.
- To be environmentally friendly as well as socially responsible. They work with artists and small manufacturers and since founding, they have featured products that contain recycled components and have not sold products containing leather, feathers or fur.
- To give back. They started the Better to Give programme which allows you to select a non-profit organization to receive a $1 donation from them at checkout.
And there’s so MUCH MORE but it will take the whole post. Go check them out and you will see they are uncommonly good folk.
When picking an item to review I was admittedly spoilt for choice but just one glance at their ‘inspirational jewellery’ section and I saw THE ONE! I loved this thing so much not only did I instantly e-mail back saying yes, yes, yes please…I also bought one immediately for a very strong lady in my life.
Here it is:
Glass Ceiling, an unofficially acknowledged barrier to advancement in a profession, especially affecting women and members of minorities
And there it is. Shattered. This brought back so many memories of myself having to fight for the same pay as my fellow, less experienced male co-workers. Watching a regional manager sifting through a pile of CVs and chucking one after another to the floor unread because “She’s at that age she will probably want babies soon.”
This necklace really spoke to me and it is one I will be passing on to my daughter, to let her know she can smash right through any ceiling if she wants to.
So, go buy this for any young women in your life. They will love you for it.
BUT THERE IS SO MUCH MORE!
For the geek in your life how about this?
I eight sum pi plates
For your family this Christmas…

And how about for a stocking filler…
Bag of ‘coal’ soaps
How cute are they? So seriously if you’re looking for something a bit special, a bit quirky and from a source that you can feel good about buying from please do check out Uncommon Goods. There is so much more to see.
On that note I shall bid you all an uncommonly good Christmas, and girls, go shatter that ceiling x
