Blogger's block. I am currently in the midst of a severe case. The worst case, in fact, since I began this blog almost three years ago now. There have been periods before where I have struggled to come up with new ideas, and times that I have questioned whether or not I should continue, but at the moment I am just feeling kind of....blank. Totally. Blank. In fact. I thought perhaps a Silent Sunday or Gallery post might help, but you guys probably get enough of that kind of stuff on Instagram and The Almighty Book of Faces right? Blogs are to be read, no? Except this ...
Blog-Basics: How to Place Text Over an Image/Watermark Your Photos
I was just asked, by a very lovely lady on twitter, how do I get my blog name over my photos. This is something I struggled with in the beginning but then along came Picmonkey and made the whole thing beautifully simple. I was about to reply by e-mail but then figured there are probably others wondering the same thing, so, here is a super-quick Picmonkey tutorial on how to add text to images or watermark your photos. First go to www.picmonkey.com. Click on 'Edit a photo' Upload your chosen image and make sure you resize to a suitable size for your blog. I am going to resize ...
Reader Appreciation Award
I have been tagged in this extremely delightful award by one of my most favourite bloggers Bibsey Mama. I heart her verily, though will from now on aim to stay up-wind of her since her flatulently-honest-truths-of-late, which I love her all the more for. Apparently she has come to regard the nonsense I clog up her comment boxes with as charming and has thus bestowed on me this award. *Curtseys* That's not enough? No? Ok, if you insist... the RULES, PEOPLE THE RULES state I MUST answer the following. Strap yourselves in and do remember some of my answers might just be a lie...or ...
How to Make A Blog Button (For Dummies)
In the run up to my one year blogoversary I have been re-visiting some old posts. Here is one that I wrote for the wonderful Love New Blogs. I am posting it here in case any of you guys missed it and may find it a useful one. So, way back in August I began writing my blog, Mum of One. I thought it might be fun but honestly didn't expect to keep at it for more than a month or two. However within a week I was hooked. I met so many other lovely parent bloggers, I joined twitter, and I discovered the really fun side of blogging. I also soon realised a fantastic way of meeting other bloggers ...
Blog Gem: B is for Bottom
In the run-up to my blog-o-versary here is my second blog gem. This is a post that I wrote as part of the A-Z Bloggers challenge earlier this year. It was early on so I hadn't run out of steam then... Dear Bottom, I feel that our relationship has changed of late. We used to be so good together. I knew that you had my back. But now, I feel like you are growing away from me. Slowly but surely. And as you grow from strength to strength I feel smaller in comparison. I feel like I am having to carry the weight of this burden. We weren’t always like this. Perhaps I ...
Off the Grid
The day is nearly upon us. The day I had hoped would never happen. I am going off the grid folks. My faithful, *read knackered* laptop has just about given up the ghost. Along with a few sticky keys I now have a disc drive that tries to swallow everything whole and refuses to regurgitate, a very dodgy space-bar, and occasionally the poor thing gets really heated and it sounds like the whole machine wants to take-off. My nursing skills, *read minor dusting, stroking, and switching off and on again ad infinitum* are, alas, not enough to heal this poor creature. I have had to call in ...

K is for …
I love people-watching. Correction, I used to love people-watching. Before I had a toddler. Now I daren't take my eyes off him for a second incase he accidentally causes some formidable catastrophe by way of his ever-jiggling arms/legs/feet. Airports are the best places ever for people-watching. Mr B and I spent two years commuting weekly between Cardiff and Dublin so we spent a lot of time doing this. While waiting for our normally delayed Aer-Arann twin-prop we would often pass the time looking around at our fellow passengers and trying to guess what they did, or where they might be ...
J is for…well you’ll never believe me.
So, this blogging challenge is beginning to take its toll. I have been racking my brains all day to come up with ANYTHING beginning with J. Well anything other than jbmumofone as you must know all there is to know about the me by now. I was actually so desperate for inspiration I began browsing the Collins English Dictionary and, blimey, it was the best fun I have had in ages. Some words are just so cool. I will be saving some up for later in the challenge but here are my top three J's that I now don't know how I have possibly survived so long without knowing. Jack-by-the-hedge: ...
I is for Inquisitive
Overheard: At the Grandparents Child: Mammy what is this? Mum: It's a bacon sandwich. Child: No what is this? *Points to bacon*. Mum: It's bacon. Child: Mammy who made it? Mum: Granny made your sandwich. Child: No Mammy who made the bacon? Mum: A piggy. Child: Mammy who made the piggy? Mum: Another piggy. Child: But who made that piggy? Mum: Piggies make baby piggies, who make other piggies and then we eat them. *DEAFENING silence as we all wait to see where this is going to go next.* Child: Oh. *Eats sandwich*. Related Mum of One posts that you ...
