It is perhaps a bit of a shame that good service has now become so rare in this country that, when it does actually occur, it feels like such a special moment rather than the norm.
However, I was on the receiving end of SPECTACULARLY GOOD SERVICE earlier this week. Don’t get too excited miscreants, I was buying new runners.
I desperately needed new runners, or at least advice on the footwear front, as have recently been suffering a huge amount of shin pain post-run. I was back home with the folks and they recommended a small, family run store in the town of Warwick.
On arrival we were greeted almost instantly by a lovely young man who, on hearing the reason for my visit, set about the task with a quiet but assured confidence.
His first request however made me squirm.
“So, if you could just take off your shoes and socks, roll your trousers up to your knees, and bend down a little. I need to examine your feet.”
Holy shit! Why did no-one warn me. I haven’t painted my toenails for about a decade and shaving my legs has not occurred within recent memory. I shuddered a little, then did as I was told.
To my delight, rather than the screams of horror I expected I was told, “Strong arches. That is a good foot.” WHOOP. Not sure if he meant right or left foot, or both, but was not about to question him.
To cut a long story short this lovely young chap then spent the next 30-40 minutes bringing me upwards of 15 pairs of trainers, showing me how to kick my heel into place and lace them properly to ensure good support when running. Encouraged me to narrow down the last few pairs by running in each on their treadmill and gave me excellent advice on running, and how to avoid and deal with shin-splints in general. He was awesome.
So, to any runners, or sportsmen, in the Warwickshire, or Midlands area, this is the shop for you. Warwick Sports.
Warwick Sports, 9 Swan St, Warwick, Warwickshire CV34 4BJ
They also have an online store. Click here.
This is not a paid or sponsored post. I just think they are fab. Check them out.

That made me laugh! A good foot! It is nice to find good customer service though it’s true as more often than not its rubbish these days and no amount of complaining does any good. My OH needs some runners and we’re only about half an hour from there so I will pass that on!

Oh please do. They are so professional. Just wish I had had more time and would have looked at all the rest of their kit. I really cannot recommend them highly enough.

Buying running trainers is an art now..and so it should be, they are protecting your bones from injury like you say. I have had a similar experience and i felt really looked after. They sure know what they are talking about. If i was nearer i would visit them too 🙂

Yeah, it’s a shame that there aren’t many of these types of sports shops around now. You need that kind of assistance when buying proper running shoes.
The buggers had me on the treadmill in my suit when I popped into the shop near my work.
Can we see these immense feet of yours?

Maybe if I get round to painting my nails 😉
