Mummy…
Why have the trees turned brown?
Why are the leaves on the ground?
Can I kick them?
Mummy…
Why are the mornings so dark?
Has the sun gone to bed?
Can I go too?
Mummy…
Where have the flowers gone?
Are they hiding?
Can I hide?
Mummy…
Is that a squirrel in the wood?
Where is he going?
Can I chase him?
Mummy…
Has the summer gone now?
Is it on holiday?
Can I go?
Mummy…
What’s a conker?
Can I have one?
Ouch.
Mummy…
Where does rain come from?
Can I jump in that puddle?
I like puddles.
Mummy…
Can I wear my wellies to the park?
Can I wear them to bed?
I like wellies.
Mummy…
Can we watch some fireworks?
What are fireworks?
(BANG)
I don’t like fireworks.
Mummy…
(yawn)
Why is the sky blue?
My nose is snuffly.
Where’s the Calpol?
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
This challenge was set by Emma from Center Parcs, Whinfell Forest. This was my favourite tip of hers:
“Get creative – Have your children decorate their poem with autumn leaves or drawings and paintings of autumnal scenes. And, if you’re kids are feeling confident, have them read out their poem and share the video on your blog.”
My little ones are too small for some of this but we have had great fun in the park, in the woods, on the bike, collecting leaves and making a, slightly wonky, autumn crown.
This is my entry to the Center Parcs and Tots 100 November challenge. If I’m chosen, I would like to visit Longleat Forest. Actually I would be overjoyed!
Linking up to Kids In The Kitchen.

Thank you! I would so love to take the boy to Center Parcs. Am keeping everything crossed.
Aw that is really lovely! I didn’t know you were a poet too! Good luck x
Mahaha, you are very kind 🙂
Yeah, but just think – with all that knowledge he’s accumulating, he’ll be the brightest kid in his class when he starts school.
I guess that is one way of looking at it. He asked me yesterday if the Tombliboos had bits. It took me a moment but eventually responded with “No. Just trousers.”
Cracking poem x
Ah, you are all so kind. Thank you x
Lovely, Miss Whitley would be proud! We’re going to Sherwood next weekend and I can’t wait.

Lovely sentiments in this poem, bringing back memories of my boy at a similar age stuffing his pockets full of conkers.
