Ode to a New Mum

October 29, 2011 By jbmumofone 27 Comments

You brought your baby home this week.

Your head is all a haze.

You’re not quite sure which way is up.

You haven’t slept in days.

They tell you you should breast-feed,

And show you different ways.

Your boobs are sore, your nipples raw.

You haven’t slept in days.

The house is full of dust-mites.

“Who cares?” the family says.

It makes you sneeze and wee a bit.

You haven’t slept in days.

Your clothes now all have milk-stains.

“You’re fabulous,” HE says.

You appreciate the sentiment,

But haven’t slept in days.

You finally left the house today.

Resumed some normal ways.

Turns out your top was inside out.

You haven’t slept in days.

Today your baby smiled at you.

“It’s wind,” the others say.

But you know best and now don’t care,

 If you don’t sleep today.

Brilliant poem. And true. It’s a while since I was a new mum, but I have yet to resume ‘normal ways’.

Super poem. Love the fact that leaving the house comes towards the end…so reflective of the fact that it does take an age to get out of the house in those first weeks!

Not really. Maybe if I write one based in Coronation Street?

I love that, very talented :)! Is it wrong that I have an 8 month old and still feel like that? Oh I’d probably dream of sleep if I ever got any!

Super words – smiling in recognition with ‘haven’t slept in days’ which has now led onto, ‘haven’t slept (properly) in years’ 🙂

Welcome!

Jbmumofone is written by me, jbmumofone, and this blog is my baby. Although clearly I didn’t think this name through because I’m now a mum of two actual babies.

I blog because I love to write, and for sanity’s sake, and have been blogging since August 2011. So why not dig on in and explore?
