I have been trying to help the boy to get over his fear of painting and we had some success last week using toilet rolls to do some printing.
After posting this I received a lovely comment from Shaunna on Google Plus who has the most wonderful blog, Fantastic Fun and Learning. Her site is full of fantastic ideas for children ranging in age from babies right through to kindergarten kids. If you are ever stuck for inspiration I highly recommend that you pop over and have a look.
She suggested, since W does not like to get his hands dirty, to try painting with clothes pegs and pom poms as this is something her little ones had enjoyed, so this week we decided to give it a go.
First we pinched a pom pom with the end of a clothes peg.
Next I squirted a few blobs of coloured paint into an old plastic food tray.
Then the boy got painting. As you can see by the smile he finally appears to be having some fun with paints!
And here is the final masterpiece!
So even if your child, like mine, is not keen on getting messy, they can still have fun with arts and crafts.
Huge thanks to Shaunna for this great idea. We will definitely be doing this again.

That is brilliant – even if they like mess, the different texture and effect on the paper is a great one to try – love the finished art work 🙂 #MessyPlay

This is a great way to paint. Kids who don’t like to get their hand dirty will love holding the clothes pins.
