I am sure many expectant Mums will be delighted to hear that M&S have just launched a brand new baby area! When I was first pregnant with the boy it was such an exciting but confusing time. Which pram did I need? Three wheels or four? Which car seat? Did I want a cot or a cot-bed? How many baby grows /muslins/bottles/blankets were going to be required and where on earth was I going to store them? Mr B and I spent countless weekends visiting store after store, glazed expressions on our faces, becoming increasingly more bemused with each new find. Did we really NEED a video monitor? ...
Encouraging Childhood Literacy With The Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour
I have always loved to read and have wonderful memories of learning to read with my Mum and my sister as a child. One of my happiest, earliest memories is crawling around the floor with my Mum putting together very simple words, each written on a piece of card, stretching in a long line right across the lounge and trying to form a sentence. It was a game that I really loved. Play-based learning has been a particular passion of mine since having my own children and you can find some examples of the things we get up to here. Bedtime stories are my favourite time of the day. The Boy has ...
Time Passes
They say time passes when you're having fun. I can't say that I have been having fun EXACTLY this morning, but it is certainly passing very quickly. You see I have found myself with a, so-rare-I-feared-it-was-almost-becoming-actually-endangered, child-free day. "No children?" I hear you gasp. No. Children. And no work! Now please don't get me wrong. I do love them dearly and I do love being with them, obviously. But, often, I do find myself dreaming of days like this. Only now I have one, I have absolutely NO IDEA what to do. So flummoxed am I that I had to resort to ...
What bugs lurk in your bedding?
Are you a fan of creepy crawlies? Me neither. I cower behind the sofa at the merest mention of a spider and don't even get me started on my moth-phobia. Not pretty I can assure you. I am truly not a fan of bugs. So, I have rather mixed emotions about the following information that I was given recently by The Bedding Company. On the one hand...EWWWWWWWWW....there are bugs in my bed! On the other hand, phew, at least now I can start to take some action. Do you wash your duvet every six months? I didn't. I will now though. Might just start with a brand new one first ...
Five reasons I know I am now middle-aged
I have been feeling my age more and more of late. There was THE birthday, and the increasing change in hair colour. Can this really be happening? Yep. Here are another five reasons I know I am now middle-aged. Tuesday nights out are preferable to Friday nights out as it is less busy and you can be sure of finding a seat in the pub. ‘A new mop’ was the top entry on my Mother’s Day wish list. The desperately sad news is that I didn’t get one so this has now been transferred to my Christmas wish list. Jeepers. My list of things I keep meaning to sort out but never seem to find ...
Are we nearly there yet?
With the summer holidays approaching many of us may have already begun to count down the weeks, or even days, until we can pack our bags, lock the doors and head off for a week or two of fun in the sun. For many of us parents though our excitement may be tempered slightly by the thought of flying with our children. Let's face it, flying is boring enough as an adult but for little ones it is no wonder that they may get frustrated with limited chance to move about, and very little to do for often hours on end. So, here are a few tips to try and and keep your journey as trouble and tantrum ...
