Hooray, it appears that spring may have finally sprung. ย At last we have some sunshine.
In celebration of this the boy and I decided to make some sun-catchers.
This came about from an amalgamation of ideas combining simple collage techniques inspired by A Mummy Too and some beautiful milk container sun-catchers made by My Little 3 and Me.
For this however we used shapes cut from those thin plastic sheets that you find separating slices of some cheese, ours was Bavarian smoked applewood slices from Aldi, but any clear plastic would do.
You will also need:
- Scissors
- Mod Podge glue or similar
- Glue spreader/paintbrush
- Scraps of coloured tissue paper
- Ribbon or string
- Sticky tape
First I cut the sheets into some simple shapes. ย We used this to practice some more shape recognition as we crafted.
Next W painted one side of a shape with Mod Podge and then stuck on scraps of coloured tissue paper until covered.
We actually did this over several sessions, a little bit at a time, until all shapes were covered. It kept us going for a week or so!
Don’t worry about any scruffy edges. Once dry these can be trimmed back with scissors.
Finally, we attached each shape to a length of ribbon using sticky tape and hung up in the window to catch some lovely sunshine!

Would wax paper work? I’m not sure what kind of clear paper to use :/
I think wax paper would work for a bit but may curl up at the edges after a while. I haven’t tried it though so not too sure.
