Tips for Mums Returning to Work

March 10, 2014 By jbmumofone Leave a Comment

Going back to work after several years of raising a family can be a stressful experience. It doesn’t take long to lose touch with corporate culture, and trying to get back into the swing of things is not only exhausting but disorientating.

During this transition, you will still need to care for your family and that can leave you with a difficult juggling act to manage.

The following tips could make it easier.

Training

If you are a mother looking to return to work then the chances are that you have given considerable thought as to how you will fit into the corporate world. Retraining is common in those looking to re-enter the workplace, as is studying part-time to build up relevant qualifications that may improve your employability.

Finding the time to fit all of this into your working day can be difficult though. Luckily, there are educational services such as Ivory Research which can ease the load of coursework when a schedule is particularly heavy.

Through supporting a student with their written coursework, these services often mean the difference between passing and failing. The aid they provide is in no way cheating; it is tailor-made to a student’s specifications and uses their input to build a collaborative study tool.

Make needs known

In order to devise a professional life which a working mum can maintain, you need to be upfront from the start about any pressing family needs.

Having needs doesn’t equal being unreasonable; it simply means explaining your situation and seeking flexibility. This could mean ensuring you never stay late on a particular night of the week in order to collect your child from school or working from home part of the time.

Most employers will be willing to accommodate you as today’s working world is not the nine-to-five office-based affair it used to be. Many jobs can be done on flexi-time or remotely. The best thing you can do is explore all of the options with your employer or HR department.

Relax

It may sound like mission impossible, but it is important that any busy person makes time for themselves. Mums returning to work are no exception.

Having a ‘me-time’ treat on the horizon can help stop you feeling overwhelmed and give you much-needed quality time with your family – but where can you fit it in?

If you plan to continue studying, custom academic writing by Ivory Research is an ideal way to relieve the load.

An excellent study aid, this service covers essays, reports and coursework to name just a few of their services and can help you achieve that trick work-life balance as a return-to-work mum.

Welcome!

Jbmumofone is written by me, jbmumofone, and this blog is my baby. Although clearly I didn’t think this name through because I’m now a mum of two actual babies.

I blog because I love to write, and for sanity’s sake, and have been blogging since August 2011. So why not dig on in and explore?
