As my regular readers will know we love all things dino at Casa B, so when asked if we wanted to review a new app inspired by the iconic picture book ‘Dinosaur Roar!’ it was a no-brainer. This picture book, by Paul and Henrietta Strickland, was first published in 1994 and Random House have recently released a special 20th anniversary edition.
The app is aimed at 2-4 year olds and incorporates different storytelling functions, one of which is narrated by different children and is our favourite. It also includes a colouring game that the boy really likes, and a ‘shake and name’ device which will show your child their ‘dinosaur name’. The latter function may need a bit of work as so far we have only actually come across two different names for W.
Here he is colouring away and below is a better view of what he can actually see. Once he has chosen his crayon he simply swipes his finger across the picture to colour it in.
As well as improving fine motor skills this has been super useful at keeping him entertained whilst I am getting ready for work in the morning, and I suspect it will be very handy to have on the plane this summer holiday.
The Dinosaur Roar app costs £1.99 and is available worldwide for download from iTunes.
For those of you with your own little Dinos at home there is more good news. Parents can enter their child to win an iPad mini, lots of Dinosaur Roar goodies and a chance to feature on the app by simply recording a short video of their child letting out their fiercest roar.
For full details of how to enter, plus terms and conditions, please visit the Facebook page here.
So good luck and get roaring. RRRRRRROOOOAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Disclosure: We were provided with both the picture book and the Dinosaur Roar app featured above free of charge for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own.
