Overheard: At the Grandparents Child: Mammy what is this? Mum: It's a bacon sandwich. Child: No what is this? *Points to bacon*. Mum: It's bacon. Child: Mammy who made it? Mum: Granny made your sandwich. Child: No Mammy who made the bacon? Mum: A piggy. Child: Mammy who made the piggy? Mum: Another piggy. Child: But who made that piggy? Mum: Piggies make baby piggies, who make other piggies and then we eat them. *DEAFENING silence as we all wait to see where this is going to go next.* Child: Oh. *Eats sandwich*. H is for Hilarious!
Ok, so this is kind of cheating as I am going to point you to hilarious stuff that other people have written, but I figure that is in keeping with the spirit of the blogging from A-Z challenge. It is all about finding great new blogs right? Here are five posts that I have recently read that not only made me laugh on reading, but also later when I would randomly recall them at work, unprofessional, in the supermarket, embarrassing, in the middle of the night, does not aid insomnia. But I promise, they are worth it. They are just brilliant. Q and A with Harriet Spinster from ...
G is for Gecko…but also Guile…with a little goodness and generosity thrown in.
In 1991 my life took a rather dramatic turn. My Dad's job moved us from the quiet suburban life of Stratford Upon Avon, to a small island in the middle of nowhere the South Atlantic, the island of St Helena. For those who don't know this is the Island that Napolean was finally exiled to and he died there, though his body was later repatriated to France. I was twelve years old when we set sail for the island and during the voyage I made great friends with another young expat girl called Lucy. We were pretty much the only children on the boat and we remained great friends during our ...
E is for “Encrypted Search Term”
Just recently this here blog has begun to scare me a little. On an almost daily basis now someone finds el blog via an "encrypted search term". WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? I have NO idea, but it scares the bejaysus out of me me a little. Are the government spying on me? Have I randomly written some tenacious phrase that has sent alarm bells ringing in GCHQ? Am I now one of MI5's most watched? WHAT DOES IT MEAN? On reflection, I am pretty sure it is none of the above and actually down to some nerdy computer-speak that I am thus-far unaware of. However, some people have come ...
D is for devotion
W and I are visiting the grandparents this week as my sister and her family are over from Canada for Easter. To say that they are a little bit excited to have their three grandsons, all together, in their house for the week would be a slight understatement. Though perhaps they won't be quite as excited come the end of the week. The excitement does not end with them though. Apart from having some wonderful time with my beautiful nephews, a stay with the grandparents generally also means: A few lie-ins. It is a known fact that Grannys like to do breakfast. Babysitters ...
C is for Coffee
A little word of warning, For those who do not know. I'm evil in the morning, 'Til I've had my cup of Joe. Don't bother me with questions, Or stories, or your plans. B is for Bottom
Dear Bottom, I feel that our relationship has changed of late. We used to be so good together. I knew that you had my back. But now, I feel like you are growing away from me. Slowly but surely. And as you grow from strength to strength I feel smaller in comparison. I feel like I am having to carry the weight of this burden. We weren't always like this. Perhaps I have not been giving you enough attention. Please let's go back to the way things were. *Squats*. Anyone else slightly worried for how April may turn out? ...
A-Z Bloggers Challenge
Anyone fancy a bit of a challenge? While browsing one of my favourite blogs, Yellow Days, earlier today I came across this post. The delightful Cat is taking part in April's Blogging from A-Z Challenge. This simply involves writing a post each day of the month, though allowing Sundays off for good behaviour, the content being based on a word beginning with each letter of the alphabet in turn. It is basically NoBloPoMo again with an alphabetti-spaghetti kinda vibe. Fancy giving it a go? If so you can linky on up here and check out the rest as well. I am entry number 1720. ...
Playing it cool
Ok, so I wasn't going to ask. Really, I wasn't. But now that you've mentioned it, you did yes, well, yes, I have been nominated for a Mad Baby Blog award. *Whoops* jbmumofone.com has been nominated for the Best MAD Baby Blog Award. Sounds pretty cool huh. But I think I need more nominations to make the short-list, though am not really sure how it all works. So, if you wanted to, not that I'm asking you to or anything, you could click below and nominate me via the very simple form. You know, if you have time. Not that I'm asking. *Whistles* Oh, sod it, ...
Self-hosting…
We have done it folks! Well a very clever Wordpress bod has done it, and Mum of One is now self-hosted. *Unclenches jaw* Phew. Whoop! Hurrah! Kinda looks the same from here doesn't it? That is a good thing. Behind the scenes it is all looking a wee bit different though so my apologies if you notice the odd glitch in the next week or so. I also appear to maybe have lost a few e-mail subscribers in the transfer so if any of you are not getting my posts in your inbox, you should be able to re-subscribe top-right-ish. Over there look *points*. Right, am off ...
