I am beginning to think that the fact that I am pregnant again may have hit the radar of some PR bods. I recently reviewed some rather lovely home chocolate making kits, I will shortly be reviewing some very delicious cookies, and giving away two LARGE variety boxes of these so stay tuned to be in with a chance of winning, and I was delighted when asked to review the following Valentines cake for Baker Days. Baker Days are an online company making personalised cakes for any occasion, and with Valentines Day getting ever closer, what could be nicer than a sweet and scrummy cake delivered ...
Kiddy Consumerism or Motherly Love?
Hattie Garlick, writing in yesterdays Telegraph, has vowed that she will not be spending a single penny on her two year old son in 2013. Interestingly she made this decision prior to being made redundant and finances I imagine becoming more tightly stretched. My initial incredulousness reduced slightly as she laid out her plan: Clothes will come only from swaps with friends or bundles from free-cycle. Toys the same. Little Garlick will be getting no rice cakes this year and apparently will only be consuming portions of the three meals eaten by his parents. Haircuts will be done at ...
This Old House…
"What was that?" Mr B enquires. "Mmm." "No really Jen what was that noise?" "Just next door I expect." I reply whilst unable to tear myself away from a fabulous new discovery on Pinterest. "I'll go and look." Now I feel bad as, to be fair, he has been at work all day while W and I have had a great time making cakes and rolling about on the lounge floor playing trains and laughing at with Mr Maker. I follow. We look about the kitchen as if it is an alien landscape. He reaches for the cupboard door, looking nervously back over his shoulder at me first. I nod in what I ...

Yummy chocolate making kits from chocchick.com
Now here is a product I was delighted to review! The rather lovely folks over at chocchick.com recently sent me two of their wonderful chocolate making starter kits to try out. W and I had great fun making chocolates at home which not only turned out to be delicious but are naturally high in anti-oxidants, gluten free, dairy free, soya free and refined sugar free. And they couldn't have been easier to make. We opened up the Choc Chicos Chocolate Kit for Kids to discover all the ingredients we would need: Organic cocoa powder Organic cocoa butter Sweet Freedom, a ...
“Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt” -Mark Twain
Tonight I made a bit of a prat of myself. That in itself is not that unusual but tonight I did it on facebook. Ouch. A friend, a very dear one at that, had expressed her concern about getting home tonight due to a protest at Falls Balls. My, idiotic, response... "There is a place called Falls Balls? *Giggles*." Mr B, who does still somehow manage to read the paper every day, then informed me that there have been some horribly serious protests in this part of Belfast since Saturday with reports of shots being fired, bricks hurled and water cannons used to control crowds. Ouch ...
Out with the old…
I had intended to spend this rather lovely bit of me-time writing a brief summary of my highs and lows in 2012. I am an extremely lucky lady this evening as the boy is safely tucked away in bed, snoring loudly through the monitor, and Mr B is currently slaving over a hot stove making what I am sure will be a delicious steak dinner. There have undoubtedly been many highs this past year, the biggest of which being W learning to walk and talk and becoming a proper little boy, full of fun, excitement and mischief. There have also been lows with the loss of both close friends and family ...

Product Review: 360 Toddler Anywayup cup
Last month W was very kindly sent the 360 toddler cup to try out from www.anywayup.com. We have spent a good few weeks putting it through it's paces and to be honest I have mixed feelings about it. I should state however that W LOVES it. He really does. It is always the first beaker he reaches for from the cupboard and whether this is down to it's aesthetic appeal, it is very bright and colourful, or down to the sipping action required I am not quite sure. The 360 toddler cup has been designed with a circular-valve system allowing your child, with a gentle sipping action, to drink ...
A Christmas Wish…
'Tis the season to be jolly, tra la la la la...... Up until today my main feeling regarding the upcoming festivities was one of stress. Stress about how I am going to manage multiple bedding changes to accommodate various relations coming and going and whether or not there will be a Marks and Spencers food store open anywhere on our route back from deepest, darkest North wales on Christmas Eve. Then I read this post by Kate Takes 5. And I felt like a prize turkey. This post has stayed with me all day. While I am wasting energy worrying about essentially nothing, there are kids ...
