Preparing Your Child for a New Sibling
With baby number two's arrival now just a few weeks away I am hoping that we have done enough to prepare W for the major changes about to descend on Casa B with the arrival of his new sibling. Being just two and a half years old it is a little tricky to grasp just how much of what is happening, and about to happen, that he actually comprehends but I think we have hopefully done enough to make it a reasonably smooth and enjoyable transition from only child to big brother. These are a few of the steps we have taken: 1. Brought W along to all scans. From the beginning we have talked ...

Toddler ABC Hoopla!
Learning letters can be tricky so we made this game of ABC Hoopla to try and inject a little fun into learning. To make this you will need: 3 kitchen towel tubes Coloured tissue paper Sponge/felt letters or card letters A, B and C Coloured card Glue or double-sided sticky tape 9 old bangles 9 white sticky labels Black marker First roll three old kitchen-towel tubes in coloured tissue paper. Next attach a sponge letter A, B or C with double-sided sticky tape to each tube. You could simply cut out a letter from coloured card and glue this on instead. Draw and cut out ...
Calm before bedtime? Not in this house.
You can picture the scene. It has been a long day. We have played, bounced, cooked, crafted, run about like loons and now it is nearly bedtime for the boy. We sit down and watch a bit of C-Beebies with some milk....quietly...a little bit of peace so we are all ready for bed. And then.... ...Daddy gets home... ...and these are the moments I know he, and we, will treasure the most. ...
If Only I’d Known…
With just fifteen weeks to go until the arrival of baby number two, I have been thinking a lot about the arrival of number one just lately. I was recently asked what were the things I wish I had known whilst pregnant that first time. I could dwell on the fact that W's birth was long, complicated, traumatic and still ultimately the best thing I have ever managed but is that going to help anyone? Nope. So...the stuff you really need to know and I wish that I had... ...that when my first contractions started but I still felt ok enough to take the time to apply my ...
On not being the perfect Mum
I recently came across this post, which was submitted as part of the wonderful Britmums carnival over at the lovely Gemma's place, by Mothering Mushroom. Rachel discusses the concept of accepting that as a Mum we should sometimes accept that we are 'good enough'. That perhaps our ideas of perfection are simply not achieveable and, most truly, that we tend to be our own harshest critics. It is a great post. And she set us a challenge. Ooooh I do love a good challenge. Here it is, and I would love for you to join in too... Firstly, list the top five reasons why as a parent you ...

How Eskimos Keep Their Babies Warm is Mei-Ling Hopgood's account of not only her own adventures in parenting but also details her extensive research into parenting practices across the world.
