We were very lucky this week to be sent a 10 piece Miffy wooden puzzle for review. I have such fond memories of Miffy books as a child and we have recently started to read W 'Miffy and the new baby' in preparation for the arrival of baby number two in July. He was so delighted when we opened up the package and recognised Miffy and her Mummy straight away. It is strange, there is something so charming about wooden toys for children. Perhaps just the fact that you know they will last forever, but with this one it seemed more than that. It may be the slightly retro bright colours ...
Prize Draw: Win 12 Bottles of Limited Edition Raspberry and Rhubarb Punch from Shloer
Finally, the summer appears to be making an appearance. This has meant more time in the garden here at Casa B. Whilst Mr B has spent the odd evening sipping away at a nicely chilled glass of Rose wine, I have been super lucky to have been sent some limited edition raspberry and rhubarb punch from Shloer to try. It is a grape based sparkling juice drink, minus any alcohol, and flavoured with raspberry and tangy rhubarb. It is delicious served over lots of ice with a slice of fresh lime, though would also be lovely served with a few fresh raspberries too, and is really refreshing. So, ...
A is for Apple: Learning Letters with Marshmallow Painting!
This week we have continued our painting fun and also combined this with becoming more familiar with letters. We are starting with the letter A. Firsty I printed out a sheet of paper showing a large capital letter A, a lower case A and a picture of an apple. I placed this together with other examples of the letter A, magnets and sponges etc, that I found around the house. W and I then spent a few minutes looking at these before getting on with the painting. I then put out a couple of blobs of red and green paint in an old food tray, and a few marshmallows. We have had ...
My New Favourite Boots: The Gershwin Boot from UGG Australia
I have long been a fan of UGG boots and have owned several pairs of both classic and classic tall boots in various colours. When I was asked if I would like to review a pair for myself or a pair for the boy I jumped at the chance... for myself... Bad Mummy! (I reasoned that he would grow out of his SO quickly it would hardly be worth it, ahem.) When I had a little browse around the website I was amazed at the range of boots they had on offer. As I said I am very familiar with their classic style but they do so many other types as well. You can see for yourself here. It took ...

Shape Recognition With Potato Printing
We have started to have some fun with paints recently and the boy is really beginning to enjoy himself now that he has realised he doesn't HAVE to get his hands really messy. So far we have had fun painting with empty toilet rolls and pom poms, and this week we had some fun with potatoes too. I had a few new potatoes in the vegetable basket that had started to go a bit sprouty so, using a small sharp kitchen knife, I cut these in half and carved out shapes into the surface to use as stamps. I managed a square, a triangle, a rectangle, an oval and a crescent. I'm afraid my attempt ...
101-ish Simple Ways To Save Money #thriftytips
I have got to be honest, I am not the world's greatest money saver. My willpower tends to vary between being very little to non-existent, however, with baby number two on the way, it is probably time I gave this some more thought. I am also hoping to win some Amazon vouchers from the lovely Jane who is celebrating the launch of her brand-spanking new blog, From Spending to Saving. My trouble is I spend far too much time listening to the bad fairy on my left shoulder, the one with the penchant for nice shoes, Chanel and fancy cheese, and not enough time listening to the good fairy on my ...
Blog-Basics: How to Place Text Over an Image/Watermark Your Photos
I was just asked, by a very lovely lady on twitter, how do I get my blog name over my photos. This is something I struggled with in the beginning but then along came Picmonkey and made the whole thing beautifully simple. I was about to reply by e-mail but then figured there are probably others wondering the same thing, so, here is a super-quick Picmonkey tutorial on how to add text to images or watermark your photos. First go to www.picmonkey.com. Click on 'Edit a photo' Upload your chosen image and make sure you resize to a suitable size for your blog. I am going to resize ...
Pom Pom Painting!
I have been trying to help the boy to get over his fear of painting and we had some success last week using toilet rolls to do some printing. After posting this I received a lovely comment from Shaunna on Google Plus who has the most wonderful blog, Fantastic Fun and Learning. Her site is full of fantastic ideas for children ranging in age from babies right through to kindergarten kids. If you are ever stuck for inspiration I highly recommend that you pop over and have a look. She suggested, since W does not like to get his hands dirty, to try painting with clothes pegs and pom poms as ...
Toilet Roll Craft: Printing Fun!
W is not a fan of messy play. I fear this may be my fault, perhaps being a little over zealous with the hand-wiping when he was smaller, as now he really does not like to get his hands dirty. Because of this he has not been a huge fan of painting at home as at nursery finger-painting is very much encouraged and he hates it. I am trying to get him over this gradually so this week we had some fun with paints but used empty toilet rolls instead of fingers or brushes. It actually worked really well. We just took an empty roll, squished it a bit, dipped in a tray of paints and stamped ...
