It hurts. My calves feel like lead. I discover more bits which wobble that I hadn't noticed previously. All of a sudden there seems to be very little air. And the air that there is feels like travelling through glue. Feeling the need to speed up on sight of another human being...and actually being incapable of doing so. Attempting to convey a 'please don't try and talk to me' smile at said human beings because there is really not enough breath to spare on chat...or smiling come to that. Hills literally get steeper before my very eyes. Ten minutes feel like ten hours. ...
Mum of One Will Race for Life: Cancer Research UK
Every two minutes someone in the UK is told they have cancer. Every TWO minutes. As long as it takes to boil the kettle. For the lucky ones those minutes might mean a cup of tea. For the unlucky, the unthinkable. Cancer Research UK are continually striving to prevent, diagnose and treat all forms of cancer, and they have saved millions of lives. But they need our help. They need funding. Race for Life is the UK’s biggest fight against cancer and the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK. Since Race for Life started in 1994, an incredible six million participants have ...
Service…
It is perhaps a bit of a shame that good service has now become so rare in this country that, when it does actually occur, it feels like such a special moment rather than the norm. However, I was on the receiving end of SPECTACULARLY GOOD SERVICE earlier this week. Don't get too excited miscreants, I was buying new runners. I desperately needed new runners, or at least advice on the footwear front, as have recently been suffering a huge amount of shin pain post-run. I was back home with the folks and they recommended a small, family run store in the town of Warwick. On arrival we ...
Davina for Next: The conclusion
Honestly folks, I feel quite sad writing this, my final review post of the Davina for Next gear. I was a little unsure about writing sponsored/paid/compensated posts on the blog but I was quite genuinely selfishly smitten with the idea of being given this stuff to review and was just THRILLED to get picked. However, I was determined to do it honestly. And I have. So here it comes. After four weeks of pretty thorough testing, my final thoughts... The Davina for Next Vest: I love it. It takes a little wriggling to get into but, once in, there will be no wardrobe malfunctions ...
Davina for Next: Week Three Update
Goodness, we are already into the third week of the bloggers "Get fit with Davina for Next" four week challenge and, amazingly, I feel like I am really hitting my stride now. At the start of the month I was really not sure how much, if at all, my fitness habits would change, but receiving the lovely Davina for Next gear really gave me the incentive to give it a go and now I am actually starting to enjoy it....MOST of the time. Last weeks efforts consisted of... WEDS: 5.3K run with Pam. Mercifully it was a flat route but sadly there was no Monty with us so although there were no ...
#SatCap: Saturday is Caption Day!
Well folks, you know the drill by now. Some of you will have seen this snap in an earlier post but I simply could not deny you the opportunity to take the mickey out of me...though be careful about any 'beached whale' analogies. Go on...do your worst. *Regretting this already* Then, as ever, head on over to the magnificent Mammasaurus' for more mirth. I will be here. Weeping. Quietly. Happy Saturday Folks ;) Related Mum of One posts that you may like: Saturday is caption day, 21st January 2012 Saturday is caption day, 14th January 2012 Saturday is Caption day, 7th ...
Davina for Next: Progress (of sorts) Report
Ok, time for an update. I know you have all been waiting with bated breath for news of Sunday's run with the uber-fit Pam (#possiblyslightlydelusional) so I shall make you wait no longer. *Anticipates yelps of delight*... *Watches tumbleweed*... Well I'm going to update you anyway. So, I was ready and waiting at 10am, feeling pretty snazzy in my new Davina for Next gear. Have finally got to grips with the elastic laces on the trainers by the way, but think I would probably still prefer normal ones. 10:10 the doorbell rings. And there is barking. Barking? It would appear ...
Davina for Next: Mum of One hits the road
Ok, so it would seem that the fates are conspiring for me to get fit this year. First, the wonderful folks at Next gave me the lovely Davina for Next gear to try out. Then, the two people I know who actually HATE RUNNING MORE THAN ME, namely my lovely mum and the wonderful Cat from Yellow Days, BOTH suggested running the Race for Life with me. This is on my Day Zero Project list to do again so am keen to get it ticked off involved. Then, yesterday, my lovely friend Pam who used to drag me out running in order to get me in shape for my wedding, but sadly moved away shortly after, is ...
