Toilet Roll Craft: Pinchy Parrots
We have gone toilet roll crazy here at Casa B the last few weeks. We have made Easter bunnies and farmyard animals and we felt it was time for something a little more...exotic. One of W's favourite C-Beebbies shows is I Can Cook and he loves it when Katy turns her fingers into a 'pinchy parrot'...so we decided to make a couple ourselves. This one couldn't be simpler and they are so bright and colourful they can't fail to cheer you up. To make them you will need: A small sheet of coloured tissue paper Sticky-tape Glue-stick Small piece of coloured card Googley ...
Teach Your Toddler Shapes with Peg Monsters!
W and I have been having some fun learning different shapes of late by turning it into a game. First we made a peg monster which was fun and super simple to make with your little ones. Simply coat one side of a wooden peg with glue... ...then stick on a large pom pom for a head and smaller pom poms for the body. We then attached two googley eyes to the head. The self adhesive ones are great for this. Now this monster is hungry so we needed to make some shapes for him to eat! I made the following document which I then printed out. This is available for free download here: ...
Toilet Roll Craft: Farm Animals
W and I love to visit our local city farm and in spring and summer we head there usually at least once a week. With all the cold and wet weather recently though we have not been able to visit for a while. To keep ourselves amused whilst stuck indoors we decided to have a go at making some of the animals that we visit from old toilet paper roll tubes. Our first attempt was a pig. Here is how we did it. Toilet Roll Pig: First we painted a toilet roll tube with Mod Podge glue and then stuck on small scraps of pink tissue paper until fully covered, painting down any rough edges with more ...
April Prize Draw: Win a Seasonal Care Package from Olbas and Jakemans
We have not been the healthiest bunch here at Casa B of late. Along with a nasty bout of Norovirus it seems that at any point this year at least one of us has had a cold. Last month it was me and Mr B is currently suffering from an extremely sore throat. I was, however, lucky enough to be sent a seasonal care package last month from Bray Leino consisting of: Olbas bubble bath (250ml) - this is perfect for relaxing aching muscles and unblocking stuffy noses with a lovely scent of eucalyptus, juniper and clove. Jakemans mini menthol cough sweets in two flavours, original aniseed ...

Colour Matching for Toddlers
W is now pretty happy identifying most colours and one of the games which I found helped with this is as simple as can be. He just loves to play with OXO cubes! Once he has finished eating I will often grab the boxes from the cupboard, red, yellow and green, and place them in front of him. We will then tip them all out, his favourite part... ...and I will encourage him to put them back into the right coloured box. He is quite happy to to do this over and over, tipping them out, and re-sorting into appropriate boxes... ...even building towers with them. This also allows me time ...
How to Make a Cotbed Quilt for Beginners, Step 8: Quilting!
So, we have basted our quilts and FINALLY made it to the most exciting part, the quilting! My apologies for the delay in getting this post up but we were struck down with a rather nasty case of Norovirus here at Casa B and energy levels are only just returning. Tonight though I have managed to crack on with the next step. Quilting basically means just sewing all three of your quilt layers together. How you do it is entirely up to you. Some quilters like to quilt along the edges of their squares, known as 'quilting in the ditch', some can manage that super pretty free-form quilting with ...
If Only I’d Known…
With just fifteen weeks to go until the arrival of baby number two, I have been thinking a lot about the arrival of number one just lately. I was recently asked what were the things I wish I had known whilst pregnant that first time. I could dwell on the fact that W's birth was long, complicated, traumatic and still ultimately the best thing I have ever managed but is that going to help anyone? Nope. So...the stuff you really need to know and I wish that I had... ...that when my first contractions started but I still felt ok enough to take the time to apply my ...
How to Make a Cotbed Quilt for Beginners, Step 7: Layering and Basting Your Quilt.
Now that we have added our borders and the front of our quilt is complete it is time to start putting all the layers together. First I would strongly recommend that you iron both the backing material and the front of your quilt so that both can be laid nice and flat. Next lay out your backing material, right side face down, on a flat hard surface. If you have a wooden or tiled floor this would be ideal. I had to make do on the carpet. Smooth out any creases to make sure that it is flat and then secure the edges to the floor with masking tape. Now, roll out your batting on top of the ...
